Concept


The visual identity for kin* is rooted in the concept of "kinship," a term often used in queer communities to describe chosen family and close circles. Translating this meaning into a graphic system, we focused on the connections between people and their networks. By utilizing a point grid and literally connecting the dots, we created the logo, which symbolizes these interpersonal bonds. This grid serves as the foundational background for all graphics, allowing us to generate diverse assets such as lineups and information cards that share a unified visual language while remaining highly adaptable for each event.

The core mechanic for every edition revolves around the event number, which is generated using the same dot system and layered over the consistent background with essential details. This modularity means that for future parties, only the introductory video featuring the turning number needs to be newly created, drastically streamlining production. The aesthetic is defined by a black, grainy texture that adds depth and a raw, analog feel. 

Since the graphics are strictly black and white, they can be easily printed at home on any colored paper, offering a cost-effective and customizable way to distribute physical posters. This style also ensures significant flexibility for future iterations, as the entire system can be inverted or swapped for solid color blocks, keeping the brand fresh and versatile across different mediums.

Brief


The task, set by kin*, was to develop a flexible and simple visual language tailored for event promotions across social media channels. The core challenge was to create a cohesive brand system that is easy to adapt and update for each new party edition without requiring extensive redesign work. Crucially, the visual identity needed to be optimized for print applications like posters, utilizing techniques that significantly reduce production costs. The solution had to balance distinctiveness with modularity, allowing for quick iteration on dates, lineups, and themes while maintaining consistent recognition and ensuring economic efficiency in physical materials.
