Concept
After reviewing the book, we realized that adding narration would enhance the film experience. Since the project serves as both a trailer for the book and a standalone piece, we selected the introduction and conclusion from the text to create a continuous narrative.
Sound artist Julia Just then incorporated these lines into the audio track they produced for the video. Regarding the visuals, the original illustrations varied greatly in color, which made the rapid edits feel disjointed.
We decided to convert all sequences to black and white to establish a consistent tone. This ensures that the focus remains on the changing scenery rather than differing color palettes, unifying the short sequences into a cohesive whole.

Brief
We were invited to help develop a short film adaptation of the book Dominium Terrae, a speculative narrative exploring the future of humanity. The story is set on a lifeless Earth, imagining a world stripped of all living organisms. The objective was to translate the book's written speculation into a compelling visual and temporal experience, giving cinematic form to a desolate yet hauntingly beautiful planet and raising profound questions about humanity's trajectory, legacy, and relationship with the natural world.
